My One-Shots
My Drabbles
Fanfiction freak, history nerd, Oscar Wilde lover. Introverted by default, though exceptions can be made. Idealist, or at least a dreamer. Often melancholy. Student with no idea of post-university work. Writer (I hope). A perfectionistic procrastinator. Undisciplined but scheming. Emigrant in the making. Politically questioning, but likes liberal principles. "Live and let live." Easily carried away by film and music. Obsessed with language to a fault. Weird. Queer. Sometimes too nervous. Tea addict, and permanently sleep-deprived. Abhors routine. Revels in obscure interests. Hopes to have discarded bratty manners by now. Occasionally feels absurdly old. A tad bit of a narcissist. Loses all patience with definitions soon. Bites.
Name: Yes, I do have one or two. XD
Age: Legally adult, which is all that random surfers need to know.
Gender: Not exactly fitting the binary and happy that way. But to make it easier on you, give me gender-neutral or masculine pronouns. Few things annoy me more than assumption in these matters.
Occupation: Student, full-time slasher, non-profit writer. I also help maintain
greek_love, a community dedicated to the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus from the Iliad,
historic_slash, and the brand new and belated
birkin_wesker. Come visit us!
Political persuasion: Somewhere more to the left. Pro-LGBTQ rights, pro-choice, encouraging science, preferring peace to war, arguing for progress (as idealistic as it sounds), sometimes flirting with anarchy, with a general distrust of authority. I like to feel independent while considering different issues, rather than stick with a party.
Fandom fixations:
Current:
The Harry Potter series - Remus and Sirius made me do it. After DH, Dumbledore and Grindelwald joined them. (-Edit after October 19, 2007: Why, thank you, JKR.)
Watchmen movie and graphic novel - Pure genius. Too many interesting characters to choose from as well, though I do have a preference for Adrian AKA Ozymandias, Dr. Manhattan, the Silhouette (and half the old Minutemen) and in a way Rorschach and the Comedian.
The Resident Evil games - I write Birkin/Wesker (yes, in alphabetical order). And I lurk in the shadows for others.
History - Because canon slash has never been so easy. XD
Mythology - Ancient Greek myths are lovely.
House M.D. - I don't think I need to explain this. Just for the record, House/Wilson is my OTP on the show.
Favourite musicians: X-Japan, Nightwish, hide, Luna Sea, Metallica, Siam Shade, 30 Seconds to Mars, Placebo, Dir en grey, Galneryus, Daita, Queen, Lordi, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Gackt, Hyde, Loudness and Zi:kill. These are my main favourites, but I'll listen to anything as long as it's interesting. My preferred genres are all kinds of rock, metal, and some classical music.
Favourite movies: Lilies, Brokeback Mountain, Bad Education (La mala educación), Velvet Goldmine, The Bubble, The Motorcycle Diaries, Proteus, Seth et Holth, Watchmen, Interview with a Vampire, Summer Storm, Happy Together, Total Eclipse, Wilde, Zero Patience, Querelle, The Dark Knight, Sleuth...
Favourite books: Too many! But in recent memory, Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar, At Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill, Watchmen by Alan Moore, Moab Is My Washpot by Stephen Fry (currently catching up on more of his work), In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin, Fire from Heaven, The Persian Boy, The Mask of Apollo, The Last of the Wine and The Charioteer by Mary Renault (can't pick just one), Maurice by E. M. Forster (finally I couldn't resist the references popping up all around), Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, The Secret Life of Oscar Wilde by Neil McKenna (yay for nonfiction), the Harry Potter series by (you guessed it) J. K. Rowling... Am I forgetting something? Oh, yes, anything by Oscar Wilde. Seriously, ANYTHING. The man is a god, I'm sorry. Also, I like reading various philosophy texts, particularly from ancient Greece. I have a fondness for Plato. *dodges bricks*
(I'm going to give this a separate post. It's already making the profile too cluttered.)
What else I love: Reading and writing, drawing, travelling, philosophy, manga, studying languages, exploring different cultures, history, psychology, going to cons and festivals, chatting with friends, playing the piano, taking and collecting photos, fooling around with a camera, figure skating (just watching it, sadly), and more than likely other stuff I can't recall right now. *points to interests*
Current obsession: The loving side of my life.
What I really, reallyhate dislike: Stereotypes and generalization. Prejudice, bigotry and censorship. Avoidance, alibism, being bullshitted by people. Any sort of attitude that inevitably ends in -phobia. General narrow-mindedness. People who condemn things they know barely anything about. Comfortable and indifferent people. And most of all, the fact that this whole section sounds like pretentious babble when in fact, I do mean it.
Current peeve: Obligations all around.
A few totally random facts:
~ I can be either extremely talkative or extremely withdrawn, depending on the circumstances. And on who I'm with, of course.
~ I have no concept of homeland and glad for it.
~ I love hunting down obscure music, books and movies, then ranting about the fact that they're not famous enough even if they're actually very good.
Friending policy: TALK TO ME FIRST, anywhere at all, and feel free to add me if you want. Chances are I'll friend you right back if I have a clue who you are. My journal is not friends-only as a whole, but personal posts will be f-locked. For info on defriending on my journal, see here.
Notes and whatnot: In the Recommended Links section visible at my journal, I provide links to some of my favourite places on the internet. I haven't found any "no linking" policies on them, but if you happen to be the owner/webmaster of one of these sites and don't appreciate the plugging, let me know and I'll remove the link. (Eh, what are the odds of this happening?) Thanks!
Random lyric: Two thousand years of lying, waiting for a sign... (hide, Easy Jesus)
Moral of the day: Long live the historical slash.
Favourite quote of all time: "There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all." (Oscar Wilde)
